Councillor Matthew Dorrance, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for a Fairer Powys, has been selected by local party members as Welsh Labour's parliamentary candidate for the new Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe constituency in the general election. The new seat takes in Brecon and Radnorshire and a large part of Neath – a Labour seat for over 100 years.

Taking to X, Matthew Dorrance said: “The battle for the general election is just getting started. Grateful to Welsh Labour members for selecting me to take on the Tories here in Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe.”

Matthew Dorrance said: "I’m delighted and honoured to be Labour’s parliamentary candidate for the Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe constituency. I look forward to taking on the Tories here to get a UK Labour government elected that can deliver the change that people desperately need.

“After nearly 14 years of the Conservatives the general election offers us a choice. A chance to change Britain.

“The choice is between a hardworking local Labour MP for Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe and a change of government, or more failure and decline with the Tories.

"The polling is clear. In this new constituency only Labour can beat the Tories.”

Matthew added: “In place of division and decline, Labour will offer people the hope that comes from a long-term plan, with Britain moving forward again and the country tilted back towards working people. And from now until the General Election, we’ll show how our plans can be turned into a reality for our communities.”
