Details for next month's highly anticipated Pontfaen YFC Illuminated Charity Tractor and 4x4 Run have been revealed.

This annual event, now a cherished fixture in the Christmas calendar for Brecon and the surrounding areas, promises to be as vibrant and festive as ever.

The run will take place on Sunday, December 22, starting from Brecon Livestock Market. Judging begins at 3:45pm, with tractors setting off on the run at 4:15pm. Members of the public are kindly asked not to attend the livestock market to ensure the smooth running of the event.

The route concludes at Brecon High School, where a warm and festive welcome awaits participants and spectators. This year, Father Christmas will greet children in the warmth of the school, handing out presents to spread holiday cheer. To add to the festive atmosphere, mulled wine and hot chocolate will be available for purchase.

A highlight of the evening will be the judging of the Best Decorated Tractor, by Hannah Thomas of ITV Wales. The winner will receive £100 in vouchers generously donated by Wynnstay. Additionally, there will be a prize for the Best Dressed Driver, encouraging participants to showcase their creativity and festive spirit.

The Illuminated Charity Tractor and 4x4 Run has seen incredible support over the years, raising more than £17,300 for various charities since its inception. In 2021, the event donated £4,300 to Macmillan Cancer Support and Wales Air Ambulance. The following year, more than £5,000 was raised for The DPJ Foundation and Wales Air Ambulance. Last year, the total climbed to an impressive £8,000, benefitting Prostate Cymru and Velindre Cancer Centre.

This year, Pontfaen YFC has chosen to support Wales Air Ambulance and Brecon Mountain Rescue. These two vital organisations provide crucial services to the local community. The Wales Air Ambulance operates 24/7, requiring £11.2 million annually to maintain its life-saving service. In Mid Wales, where hospitals can be more than an hour away, this service is a lifeline. Meanwhile, Brecon Mountain Rescue Team is entirely staffed by volunteers and funded solely through public donations. They need to raise around £55,000 every year for operating costs, which supports a wide range of emergency activities, including rescuing climbers, hill walkers, and assisting police in searching for vulnerable or missing persons.

Local businesses and the community play a vital role in the event's success. To sponsor the event, the YFC requests a donation of £50 or more. In return, sponsors will have their business logo displayed on a sign, with all additional funds going directly to the charities. Businesses interested in sponsoring can email their details to [email protected].

It’s not too late to be part of this event.

Entry for participants is £10 per vehicle. To join the run, interested drivers should email [email protected] to secure their place.
