A driver managed to film the horrific moment three vehicles collided in front of him as he drove to Brecon along the A470 last Friday.

Mike Ashcroft, 47, caught the heart stopping moment on his dash-camera when two cars and a van crashed around 9am on Friday morning.

The footage shows a white Vauxhall Astra being flipped on its roof as a white Ford transit van flies down the embankment and a grey Vauxhall Astra veers off the road, fortunately managing to stop at the top of the embankment.

Mike, who uploaded the footage to Facebook to warn others about driving safely on the A470, said in his original post: "So glad everyone walked away from this relatively uninjured.

"This is the second time I’ve had to rescue people from smashed up cars. I’v seen more accidents in South Wales this year than in all twenty years of driving around London and the M25."

He also uploaded the footage as he said a lot of people had been trying to blame the white Astra involved without knowing the full facts.

As well as analysing the footage in the post he also talks about the aftermath of the crash.

In the Facebook post, Mike said: "One of the two girls trapped in the white car got away with a possible broken arm, The chap in the white van took down the fence, a tree and was stopped from going further down the valley by another tree and clambered back up to the help. The chap in the grey car walked away uninjured."

Later in the post he said: "I feel gutted for these girls in the white car. No matter how good a driver you think you are, you have to consider the facts before pointing the finger at who is to blame.

"I am just glad everyone walked away - let’s have some consideration for the girls trapped in the car."

The collision, which happened between the RAC Bends and Libanus, was attended by Dyfed-Powys Police, a paramedic in a rapid response car and two emergency ambulances.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed they had received a call at 9.31am to a report of three-vehicle accident with two persons trapped.

They said: "Persons trapped were freed quite quickly and the crew reported there were four walking wounded patients at the scene and they were taken to the Prince Charles Hospital."

While traffic did move slowly along the road following the crash, the road was not closed.

Joe Duffin-Jones, 28, from Pontyclun, drove past the scene of the accident shortly after the crash happened.

He was in a queue of traffic being directed around the white astra by somebody who had stopped to help, and saw an emergency ambulance raising towards the crash as he drove towards Libanus.

Joe said: "It looked awful, the white Astra was on its roof and the windscreen was smashed in. I was dropping my girlfriend off in Brecon, and neither of us realised there had been a third vehicle until we saw the news later.

"It’s lucky that the people involved weren’t more seriously hurt. We thought the worst when we saw the white Astra and an ambulance coming towards us from Libanus."
