A Facebook post by the Brecon and Radnorshire Conservative Association complaining its election posters have been damaged has gone viral.
The party used its Brecon & Radnorshire Conservatives page to share photographs of signs promoting general election candidate Chris Davies that have been vandalised.
The post has been shared more than 640 times on Facebook and attracted more than 1,600 comments - but has failed to win the party much sympathy.
In the post the local party said: "Wow, fair play, we thought our signs are pretty sturdy, whoever is responsible for this must be pretty tough. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to destroy our signs in Three Cocks and Rhayader.....
"This has been happening across Brecon & Radnorshire in recent weeks and it’s becoming rather tiresome.
"If you have an issue with what we stand for then please contact the party and we can discuss your issue.
"All the best,
"The Brecon & Radnorshire Conservative Association".
But the post appears to have met a negative reaction online with the majority of the 2,800 reactions less than sympathetic.
There were 1,800 laughing face ’Ha ha’ reactions, 768 likes, 185 heart ’Love’ reactions but only five crying face ’Sad’ reactions and 36 frowning ’Angry face’ reactions. There were also 10 shocked reactions.
Comments ranged from one user quipping "looks like they’ve been cut…how ironic…" to others, in an apparent dig at leader Theresa May’s promise to allow a vote to overturn the hunting ban, blaming foxes.
Other commentators made fun of the Mrs May’s "strong and stable" catchphrase.
The damage has been reported to Dyfed-Powys Police who’ve appealed for information.
Candidate Chris Davies, who has been the MP for the constituency since 2015, called the attacks "wanton vandalism".
Last week Brecon and Radnorshire’s Liberal Democrat Welsh Assembly Member Kirsty Williams complained that a Conservative board had been lodged in the hedge at her home near Brecon.
Mr Davies said it was "the sort of thing that happens to all parties" and his supporters had "laughed it off" when rival boards had been planted on their property.
Following the damage to his boards Mr Davies said: "People moving boards is OK, having a bit of a joke, and we’ve had that but this is pure vandalism.
"Our boards have been ripped to shreds. This is very different and the police have been informed.
"It is wanton vandalism and if that is the way other parties put their case what damage would they do on a bigger scale?"
