The Bracken Singers brought festive joy to the community with their impressive series of 10 pre-Christmas concerts, led by their new conductor, Vera Buckler.
The series kicked off on the morning of Tuesday, December 10, at Crosfield House Residential Home in Rhayader, where residents and staff were treated to a delightful programme of 15 carols and popular Christmas songs. The audience joined in enthusiastically, especially with festive favourites.
Later that week, on Thursday, the Singers paused their busy schedule to enjoy a well-deserved Christmas lunch at Llandrindod Wells Golf Club. The festive spirit continued into Friday evening when they performed at the Bandstand in Llandrindod Wells as part of the town council’s “Carols at the Bandstand” event. Despite challenging weather, a large crowd gathered to enjoy this cherished tradition, complete with mulled wine and mince pies.
On Saturday afternoon, December 14, the group braved bitterly cold weather to perform under the canopy at Rock Park during the Winter Festival. While the market itself struggled with attendance, the Singers were warmly appreciated by the stallholders.
Monday morning, December 16, marked the ninth performance in their series, held outside Tesco Superstore in Llandrindod Wells. Christmas shoppers were serenaded with carols, and their generosity shone through, with donations collected for the Bracken Trust.
The grand finale came on Tuesday, December 17, at Wylesfield Care Home in Llandrindod Wells. A group of over 20 singers, accompanied by pianist Sue Turner, performed their full repertoire of carols and Christmas favourites. The performance was well-received, and the group was thanked warmly by the care home’s management.
After their final concert, the Singers celebrated the conclusion of their busy season with a visit to the Metropole Hotel for tea, coffee, and seasonal refreshments - a fitting end to a series that spread festive cheer far and wide.
