A hustings event held by Brecon and Radnor NFU Cymru in Llandrindod Wells gave members the opportunity to quiz their prospective National Assembly candidates on the issues that matter to them.
Among the issues discussed were the importance of the eradication of bovine TB, renewable energy, the difficulties associated with planning applications, the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) and the future of young people in the industry.
The evening was chaired by Brecon and Radnor NFU Cymru chairman Colin Millichap and there were four candidates present, including Gary Price, Conservatives; Kirsty Williams, Liberal Democrats; Freddy Greaves, Plaid Cymru and Neil Hamilton, UKIP, who were all questioned on a wide range of issues.
Speaking after the meeting Colin Millichap said, “I’m very pleased that our members have had the opportunity to quiz the candidates on what they would do for the constituency if they were to be elected. Brecon and Radnor is a deeply rural area, with farming and agriculture at the heart of the local economy. Every sector in our industry is currently facing considerable challenges, therefore it is vital that on 5 May, we elect an AM who will be a strong voice for farmers down in Cardiff Bay.”
