Two choirs came together earlier this month to hold a concert in aid of those suffering in Ukraine.

On Sunday, April 10, Aberhonddu & District Male Choir and Talgarth Male Choir held a joint performance at the Plough Chapel in Brecon in aid of the British Red Cross - Ukraine Appeal.

The evening began with the Ukrainian National Anthem being played and both choirs sang a number of pieces individually and together, creating a tremendous sound and atmosphere which flooded through the historic chapel.

It was the first opportunity for both choirs to sing together since the Covid lockdown began and they were glad to be back performing to a live audience again.

The choirs were joined by two soloists for the evening - Catherine Hughes and Marc Williams - who both received warm applause for their performances.

The concert was well attended with over 200 people coming to see the choirs perform, who had formed a long queue outside the chapel waiting to come in.

During the interval the raffle was drawn where there were a considerable number of excellent prizes to be won.

Overall, the joint concert managed to raise an incredible £3,600 for the British Red Cross - Ukraine Appeal.

It was an emotional evening, yet greatly enjoyed by all who performed and those who attended.

As a further fundraising effort, videos taken from the concert will be available on the choir’s Facebook page and YouTube shortly, where there will be a link to donate towards the cause.

Both choirs have said they are resolved to do all they can by raising money that will help in some way towards supporting the people of Ukraine.
