BRECON Law Courts are one of 10 across Wales that are to close, it has been confirmed.
The Ministry of Justice announced a consultation on closing 11 courts across Wales in July including Brecon Law Courts which houses a magistrates' court and civil justice courts. The building is also regularly used to hold inquests.
The consultation closed in October and it has now been confirmed the court will close along with others at Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot, Pontypridd and Wrexham.
Three courts in north Wales will shut when alternative venues are found while Carmarthen’s civil, family, tribunal and probate hearing centre will be retained but cases from its law courts sent elsewhere, which is also the case in Prestatyn.
The UK government claimed 95% of people could drive to court within an hour but the Law Society said it would take much longer for those who have to use public transport.
