For 2024, Brecon Floral Society adopted as its charity the South Powys Parkinson’s Support Group.

At a recent meeting, Club President of the floral society, Mrs Ann Bevan, presented a cheque for £260 to the charity’s group Co-ordinator, Mrs Clare Tipton.

Brecon Floral Society has been established for 69 years and will be celebrating its platinum anniversary in June 2025.

The Club meets on the last Thursday of every month at 2:30pm (except August and December) in the Barn at Brynich. You don’t have to be a flower arranger, just come along to relax, have a chat and see the wonderful designs created by the demonstrators with a chance of winning one to take home.  If you would like more information, please contact: [email protected]

The Powys Support Group covers a large area of Powys from Crickhowell to Llanwrtyd Wells and also welcomes members from neighbouring counties who are searching for an accessible group.

It operates with the assistance of Parkinson’s UK Cymru, with a widely dispersed, rural membership. They aim to meet the ongoing challenge of members’ needs with a varied programme of support and friendship. For more information contact: [email protected]

Their two exercise programmes; Strictly Parkinson’s Dance & Movement in the north (Builth Wells) and the Physiotherapy Exercise Group in the south (Llangorse) form the backbone of their continuing battle with this debilitating condition, which is rapidly affecting more and more families.

They meet on a monthly basis at Llangorse, when possible, with a guest speaker, (medical or otherwise) or an activity; visit local gardens; make theatre visits and twice yearly have a larger meeting at a central venue for lunch and taster therapy sessions.

A spokesperson for the support group said: “We actively fundraise ourselves and with Parkinson’s UK are committed to improving the life of anyone affected by the condition and to support research aimed at finding an ultimate cure.

“As a group, we are therefore truly grateful for any and all donations which actively help us to continue this support.”
