Members of the Brecon Jazz Festival Planning group for 2024 gathered recently in Brecon town on a busy Saturday afternoon to launch this year’s Festival.

The team met at the Cathedral to hand out leaflets to visitors attending the Medieval Festival and then moved through town to popular festival music venues for photo opportunities including the Castle Hotel, St. Mary’s and Brecon Guildhall.

The 2024 Festival will take place over three weekends in August.

The festivities start with a Family Jazz Day, lively bands and workshops, at the Castle Hotel from midday on Sunday, August 4.

This is followed by a main weekend of indoor and outdoor concerts between Friday, August 9 and Sunday, August 11.

The final weekend will take place over Saturday, August 17 and Sunday, August 18, featuring jazz and film.

The programme, which will be announced shortly, will follow in the 40-year tradition of musical excellence, with bands playing a range of jazz styles. These will be featured in different venues across Brecon, complemented by talks and workshops and, for the final weekend, screenings in the Coliseum Cinema.

Music for Brecon Jazz Festival will come from across the globe, drawing visitors from around the country. Visitors will get the opportunity to enjoy acts and bands from UK, USA and elsewhere, in collaboration with jazz talents both local and featuring the best of ‘creative musical Wales’.

Brecon Jazz is now established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, with exciting new branding and logo and a new Planning Group of local volunteers working as a team.

The 2024 Festival looks likely to be an amazing event for the town - so please put the dates in your diaries!

Created in 1984 by local enthusiasts – musicians, promoters and fans – the early festival featured live jazz music on the streets and in the pubs and cafes of Brecon. It was a community event created by the town’s residents, modelled on New Orleans-style jazz events.

From its humble beginnings, the festival’s fame spread across the country and beyond.
