A school in Brecon has said it will use its donation for over £2,000 from one of the town’s supermarkets to improve its outdoor learning facilities.
Mount Street Nursery and Infants School received a donation of £2,395.39 from The Co-operative, based on Lion Street, as part of the shopping giant’s local community fund on Friday, December 14 last year.
Headteacher Shan Kenchington said: “The school is delighted that we’ve been chosen as one of the projects which the Co-op are supporting.
“The money will be used towards the outdoors equipment at the school.
“In particular, we are looking to erect a new outdoor classroom in the new year.”
The shopping giant’s Brecon branch raised a staggering £7,052.45 as part of its local community fund’s which is part of the 5+1 scheme.
The money was also split between its other two chosen community projects; The Regimental Museum of the Royal Welsh, which received £2,360.57 and Friends of Cradoc Scool, which received £2,296.49.
The fund is made up of donations from the supermarket - whenever a Co-Op member uses their membership card in Co-Op stores, 1% of the purchase price on selected items is put into the fund.
The 5+1 scheme also means that members have 5% of the price of those purchases made in store returned into their Co-op membership account.
The money donated to the Brecon school, as well as the museum and the school in Cradoc, was from the fund which came to an end in December last year - it resets every six months allowing different organisations to receive a financial boost.
Manager Libby Munden said: “The fund is aimed at community projects rather than big companies who have a large turnover every year.
“It’s good because it means that money is going back into the local community.”
