The next stage of consultation on proposals for significant investment in Brecon's town centre streetscape is set to launch soon.

The plans focus on enhancing the pedestrian experience, improving connections, boosting biodiversity, and creating safe, accessible public areas that reflect the town's unique qualities.

The scope includes High Street, Struet, High Street Superior, High Street Inferior, and the Bulwark.

Powys County Council says it has taken into account the feedback received from previous consultations and is pleased to present the ambitious plans developed so far.

Cllr Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys said: “The next stage of the process is to display these updated plans at y Gaer, Brecon from February 24 until March 16, 2025.

“With staffed drop-in sessions scheduled for February 24, 10am - 5pm and March 12, 9:30am – 6:30pm, where you can ask questions and talk through the plans.

“We aim to engage with as many people and groups as possible, ensuring we balance the views of all town centre users, including residents, local businesses and specific user groups. As well as being able to view the plans and complete the consultation survey in person at y Gaer, we will also have an online option available.”

“We aim to gather the views of a broad range of individuals and stakeholders to finalise plans for this ambitious project, which seeks to revitalise Brecon town centre, making it a more accessible and attractive space, thereby benefiting the local economy,” added Cllr Charlton.

In addition to these plans, the council has secured £800,000 in Transforming Towns grant funding to support local businesses with property improvements in the town centre. This funding will assist in refurbishing deteriorating shops, encouraging long-term economic growth.

The plans have been developed in collaboration with consultants WSP and will be funded by the Welsh Government.
