An iconic and historic Brecon hotel is set to reopen next month following its £3 million refurbishment.
The Castle of Brecon Hotel will reopen to the community on Friday, April 11.
Built in the remains of Brecon Castle and part of the award-winning Coaching Inn Group, the hotel is close to completing a full renovation of its 42 bedrooms, the restaurant, bar and all public areas.
The extensive refurbishment, which began in October 2024, will provide the local area with more than 55 job openings upon completion.
Newly appointed General Manager, Mike Pope said: “We were overwhelmed with applications and have been lucky enough to be able to offer roles to local people ranging from kitchen to front of house. The new team will be at the centre of our quest to provide hospitality from the heart to our guests and we can't wait to welcome them over the coming months.”
Each of the hotel’s bedrooms has been given a revamp, taking design inspiration from The Coaching Inn Group’s cosy and comfortable aesthetic, whilst always ensuring the brand’s signature ‘Hospitality from the Heart’ approach. Guests can select from Classic, Superior and Deluxe tiered bedrooms, ranging from single beds to doubles, twins, family and dog-friendly rooms.
Celebrating the local culture, landscape and community, each room has been named after various landmarks and places within Brecon, giving the historic hotel a truly Welsh touch. Examples of the room names include The Six Peaks Room, The Black Mountain, Sir Charles Morgan and The River Taff.
A major consideration of the refurbishment has been to completely transform the hotel’s restaurant space, which can not only seat 103 people, but aims to provide a comfortable and quality dining option for both the community and those visiting the area. Along with an overhauled and newly reimagined dining room and bar areas, there will be a contemporary menu with nods to traditional classics, including dishes such as Welsh Rarebit, Lamb Faggot with Brecon Ale gravy and Caerphilly and Leek Welsh cakes with walnut ketchup. The hotel’s bar and lounge will deliver a curated drinks menu featuring a range of beers, wine, soft drinks and more.
The group says that the beautiful location, comprising of breathtaking riverside and mountain views, will be a key destination venue for tourists, but also an important spot for those local to Brecon.
Two new suites will be at hand for hosting larger meetings and events. The Crug Suite can hold between 40-50 guests, and The Usk Suite can seat 14-16 people - viewed as an ideal venue for private dining.
Speaking back in October ahead of the refurbishment, Adam Charity, Chief Operating Officer of Coaching Inn Group said: “This is an exciting new chapter for the iconic and historic Castle of Brecon Hotel.
“We cannot wait to welcome locals, and guests from further afield, to showcase the changes we will be bringing to this stunning property.”
