A CELLIST who has played at major concert halls around Europe will feel right at home when she plays at the Golden Valley’s Dore Abbey next week.
For Amy Norrington, who will play in a piano quartet at the abbey in Abbeydore on Saturday, July 7, at the Concerts for Craswall, is the daughter of the founder of the charity concerts, Sue Norrington.
Amy recently appeared at Liszt Academy Hall in Budapest and Wigmore Hall, London, and her next performance will be the 16th Concert for Craswall she has performed in. The concerts are bringing internationally acclaimed chamber and orchestral players to the Black Mountains community. Amy, whose mother lived in the village, said: “I haven’t played in all of the concerts. It’s such a special place and the atmosphere is amazing.
“Next week it will be a chamber concert and completely different. With an orchestra there is a very different sound. This concert will be more like my normal life.
“It’s very special also to be bringing people back to Craswall. People from far away. The concerts have built up. This is more like serious chamber music now,” said Amy.
She’ll be playing alongside Scottish pianist and long-term music colleague Alasdair Beatson, violinist, Alena Baeva, who is fast emerging as one of the finest violinists of her generation and international viola player, Lilli Maijala.
The quartet will play works by Brahms, Dvorak and Dohnanyi, chosen by Amy.
The concert begins at 7.30pm. Tickets can be bought online at Concerts for Craswall’s new website www.concertsforcraswall.org. Call the box office on 01981 510570 or e-mail [email protected]
