A Llandrindod Wells charity is aiming to donate 500 shoeboxes to vulnerable people as part of its Christmas appeal.
Helping our Homeless Wales has unveiled its plans for a Christmas appeal this year - as it aims to support Wales’ most vulnerable this winter.
Last year, Helping Our Homeless Wales managed to support almost 40 families due to their annual shoebox appeal, but this year, they expect it to be their busiest yet, and have set a target of producing 500 boxes through local donations.
Sarah Mason, founder of Helping Our Homeless Wales, said: “We would ideally like to get 500 boxes as this would benefit so many people, and we would welcome clubs, young farmers clubs, churches, and schools to support us.
“Our focus has extended this year as we are supporting many children and families, so we are asking for boxes for children - to ensure no one goes without this Christmas.”
The idea to support people through food boxes came six years ago through Sarah and a group of friends, the premise being that they would allow anyone to help donate.
“We came up with shoe boxes as many people have these in their homes, it was an accessible item, and the size meant people could fill as they wanted,” said Sarah.
The charity is now calling on everyone in the local community to help donate to their cause to make sure everyone has a Christmas this year.
“We would welcome anyone to support us and help us to make this Christmas and beyond a better place for everyone,” Sarah added.
