Cor Y Gyrlais from Swansea Valley recently held their annual concert at St Cynog’s Church in Ystradgynlais.
The event took place on the evening of Friday, September 27, under the choir’s musical director, Peter Totterdale and accompanist, Julie Sims, in front of a capacity audience.
The choir’s repertoire on the evening was an exciting mixture of traditional choral songs, but with the addition of newer, more modern numbers.
The rendering of “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical Les Miserables and “New York, New York” associated with Frank Sinatra captivated the eager audience.
Supporting artists included baritone, Liam J Edwards, who is studying at the the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama at Cardiff; soprano, Darcy George, who, like Liam, is also studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama at Cardiff; and Sian Davies, who accompanied both artists.
They were also joined by two school choirs - from Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera and Dyffryn Y Glowyr School.
Looking ahead, the choir has many concerts in the works on the lead up to Christmas.
Over the next few months they will be entertaining the residents of nursing homes and older people’s homes within the Swansea Valley and surrounding areas.
They will also be taking part at this year’s carol service at St Cynog’s Church in Ystradgynlais.
