A group of inspirational young footballers from Brecon have been lauded by their coach for their hard work and dedication on the pitch.
Brecon FC Juniors have been working hard to involve more girls in the sport and develop all-girl teams.
On Sunday, April 21, a group of girls from Brecon came together to form a team and go along to an event to represent girls’ football in South Powys.
They were the only girls’ team from the area to take part in the Central Wales Football event, which was held in Aberystwyth.
"They performed unbelievably as a team for the first time ever and were a real inspiration," explained their coach, Billy Brown.
"They are now looking to build upon the experience by not only playing in the mixed teams at the club but now form a girls’ only team in a number of age groups."
If there are any girls looking to join the club and get involved, they can contact Billy on 07961626474.
"The girls are a real inspiration to many of the children at the club and I have the pleasure of being part of their journey so far," added Billy.
Girls' football in Wales has experienced a significant surge in popularity and participation in recent years. With initiatives aimed at encouraging girls to join the sport, such as grassroots programs, school leagues, and community clubs, more girls than ever are taking to the pitch.
The success of the Wales women's national team in international competitions has also served as inspiration and motivation for young aspiring players. The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has also been actively promoting girls' football development, providing opportunities for coaching and skill-building.
With increased visibility and opportunities, the trajectory of girls' football in Wales looks to be on a promising path towards continued expansion and success.
Getting involved with local clubs, such as Brecon FC, is often the first step for girls interested in football.
These clubs provide a supportive environment where players can learn and develop their skills while fostering a sense of camaraderie and teamwork.
