Builth Wells Branch of The Royal Naval Association held the second Welsh Open Uckers Tournament at Builth Wells Rugby Club on Saturday, June 8.

Players from as far afield as Birmingham, Reading, Stratford upon Avon, Wrexham, Monmouth, Great Malvern and locals from Builth Wells, attended and contested for the Team and Singles Titles.

The winners of these prestigious titles in the world of Uckers were Darren Lever, who, after a closely fought contest with Monmouth’s Johnathon Russell  became the 2024 Singles  Champion.

The Team Winners, The Odds and Ends, Martyn Shakespear, a submariner from Birmingham and Mandy Russell from Monmouth, narrowly beat The Em and Em’s team of Emma Buckingham (Great Malvern) and Emlyn Luxton (Builth Wells).

The presentations, grand draw and general revelries were greatly enhanced when The Hay Sea Shantymen entertained those in attendance with many rousing song and plenty of audience  participation.

The board game Uckers is usually played in the Royal Navy but has spread to many other armed forces. It is traditionally played with two to four players.
