Brecon’s Watton Allotment Society tries hard to be inclusive and facilities for green-fingered members of Brecon Mind and gardeners with disabilities have always been top of the agenda.
With this in mind, the committee decided to replace the rickety, plastic storage cupboards used by those members with raised bed gardens.
Thanks to grants from the Brecon Beacons National Park Sustainable Development Fund and Brecon Town Council, the cupboards have been replaced with brand new, lockable cupboards constructed from sustainably sourced wood.
The aim of the Bannau Brycheiniog Sustainable Development Fund is to support projects that help to improve the quality of life in communities and the committee believes this has now been achieved.
Joint Chairperson, Jackie Thomas said: “We are very grateful for the grants which allow us to continue making our fantastic allotments accessible to all garden lovers.
“The cupboards will be useful additions to the plots we have for our less able gardeners and we hope they will do so for many years to come.”
