A couple at a Llanfaes care home have recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.

Alfred and Dorothy Walker’s 71st wedding anniversary was celebrated at Trenewydd care home.

The couple, who are residents at the home, welcomed their son, daughter-in-law and grandson to the party.

Also in attendance was Cllr David Meredith, Peter Lathbury of Powys County Council and Cllr Matthew Dorrance.

The celebration was part of a wider event to recognise the care home's employees for their long service.

Trenewydd chefs Anne Jones and Mandy Potter provided a buffed lunch and Dylan Everson Mathews, a local artist and theatre performer, offered live entertainment.

There was a special mention for deputy manager, Tina Price, who celebrates 25 years of service this year. Five residents who have lived at the home for a long time were also recognised at the event.

Richard Shepherd, manager of the Shaw healthcare-operated home, said: “We’re very passionate about our local community here at Trenewydd, so it was fantastic to celebrate alongside them and see the residents enjoying themselves.

“Only last month, we donated £130 to the local foodbank. With the ever-growing challenge of rising costs, the decision to support the food bank was seen as an essential way of giving back to the most vulnerable members of our community. We look forward to more community events and initiatives in the future.”
