Talgarth marked the 80th anniversary of D-Day with a plethora of events on Thursday, June 6, and Saturday, June 8.

Talgarth veteran John Gwynne was joined by fellow veterans, cadets, school pupils, local councillors, residents, and members of the clergy at 11am on Thursday at the War Memorial as they commemorated the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landing.

In the evening at 8.30pm there was live singing from Talgarth Male Voice Choir in the town square with tribute readings were made.

The events continued on the Saturday with the town square filled with activities throughout the day, including a George Formby tribute act, an interactive display.

A parade of around twenty people took place at midday with children and families making their way through the town.

Performances from the Bluebird Belles and The Jazz Swing Duo throughout Saturday afternoon and evening brought an end to the commemorative events at The Castle Hotel, where residents joined in with the singing and dancing.

The Hotel lit lamps of peace above the front door of the building and The Castle Fish Bar next door offered 50p Potato Fritters, with all money going towards sponsoring an Assistance Dog.
