A Border Collie and its owner helped rescue a casualty from Pen y Fan at the weekend.

On Saturday, October 26, Flyn and his owner discovered a man who had moved off the main path of Pen y Fan to take a rest as he felt unwell.

The man’s condition had deteriorated and he was in need of urgent medical assistance.

The dog walker raised the alarm and with the assistance of another walker and a group of cadets made the man safe and comfortable until the team arrived on scene for medical assistance.

A spokesperson for Brecon Mountain Rescue Team said: “The casualty was winched and flown to a waiting ambulance by a maritime coastguard rescue helicopter from Newquay for onward transfer to hospital by road.

“Many thanks to the National Trust staff at Pont Ar Daff for your access assistance and support from Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team.”

As the team were descending Pen y Fan from the morning’s call-out they were called to assist a farmer who had been involved in a farming accident on the hill above Llangynidr.

The man was treated at the scene by the team’s remote rescue medical technicians and prepared for winching by the Coastguard rescue helicopter from Caernarfon.

A spokesperson for Brecon Mountain Rescue Team said: “The team wishes both casualties a speedy recovery.”
