Bicycle-based business Drover Cycles has descended upon Talybont-on-Usk by opening up a new outlet in the village.

The business has been based in Hay-on-Wye for 15 years selling bikes, accessories, and clothing as well as renting out bikes and offering bike services and repairs. The Talybont outlet will run alongside their main base in Hay.

Owners Luke and Anna decided to open up the new outlet in Talybont when the premises became available after the previous owner, who also ran a bike repair business called Bikes and Hikes, had to give up the space. Keith from Bikes and Hikes is still offering a full servicing and repair service from his base in Llanddew.

Anna Heywood-Skinner, who runs the Talybont outlet, said: “It’s come about all of a sudden and we’re in the middle of the summer season so we’re still getting our bearings but hopefully we have a good summer. We’re glad to have opened here.

“As amazing as our Hay-on-Wye base is, it’s good to also have a presence in the heart of the national park where a lot of cycling and mountain biking takes place. People come from all over the UK and worldwide to ride here.

“Looking forward, we’re going to do some more guided rides from Hay. We’ve got some electric mountain bikes for this, so people who are used to riding at the trail centres and are getting quite good at trail riding but cannot necessarily do the navigation can join us and not have to worry about the navigation.

“Luke has taken some people out on guided trails and they’ve just been blown away by it. We’ll hopefully be able to provide the guided rides from here (Talybont) at some point.”

The Talybont outlet is set up for bike repair services, bike rental, and selling spares and accessories.

Its location has access to cycling routes and mountain bike trails, with classics like ‘The Gap.’

The team at Drover Cycles welcome all types of cyclists to offer advice and guidance as well as the repair services and bike rentals. They are open in Talybont from 10am to 4pm, seven days a week.
