More than a dozen schools in Powys are shut today (Thursday) after teachers walked over a continued row over pay and funding.

National Education Union (NEU) teacher and support staff members in schools in Wales are on strike, after the union turned down an improved package from the Welsh Government.

Following a meeting of Welsh representatives on February 14, the NEU rejected the pay offer made by Wales’ Minister for Education and the Welsh Language.

The NEU said the offer of an additional 1.5 per cent added to teacher pay, plus an additional 1.5 per cent lump-sum, was "not good enough".

It says the offer failed to address either the cost of living crisis, inflation, or the "damage" done to pay since 2010.
