MOUNT Street Junior School has completed the first stage of its plan to refurbish the school playground, with the unveiling of a 50 metre-long mural.

The project began last spring, with ideas and designs created by the children. The mural took close to 1,000 hours to complete. It could not have been achieved without the phenomenal support received of parents and the local community.

Jenkins Builders kindly donated paint and equipment while local artists came up with the design, while a team of parents, grandparents and friends supported the pupils who took part in the painting. The mural is divided into a number of sections depicting scenes including the Brecon Beacons, Welsh and Chinese dragons, Mount Everest and a jigsaw.

Aysha Waghorn, acting head teacher, said: “The aim of the mural was to celebrate the cultural diversity and wide range of interests in the school.”
