It was an amazing week at the Urdd Eisteddfod for pupils of Builth Wells High School who contributed 11 of the 24 medals won by the Brycheiniog and Maesyfed region, including four medals won during the Eisteddfod week.

Eifion Davies Yr.9 came first in the solo percussion while Elin Bolland Yr.9 came second in the piano solo. Elin also won another second place in the instrumental duet with Amy Cromie of Yr.12. Meanwhile Mabli Jones Yr.9 picked up a bronze medal for a third place in the Yrs. 7-9 ‘CogUrdd’ Eisteddfod cooking competition.

The other seven medals were won in the Arts and Crafts sections including a first place by Brân Davies Yr.9 for his jewellery work. Brân also won a second place with his 2D textiles work. Poppy Hughes in Yr. 11 won another second place in the Arts and Crafts with her 2D Textiles work. Those winning third places were Maisy Wilcocks Yr.7 (Monochrome prints) Ella Jones Yr.9 (CAD / CAM) Bethan Jones Yr.11 (3D Creative work) and Ieuan Jones Yr.13 for his Design and Technology Project portfolio.

Builth Wells High School pupils were also prevalent on the Eisteddfod field helping and volunteering in all aspects of the Eisteddfod including Tegwen Bruce-Deans and Freya Richards from Yr.12 who took part on the stage for the Chairing and the Crowning ceremonies. Former Head Girl Gwen Davies led the chairing ceremony with her sister and current Head Girl, Elin Davies. The fanfare used for every major ceremony this year was composed by Bethan Jones Yr.11. Other pupils who helped on stage were Ceiran Prynne Yr.12, Siôn Coyle Yr.11, Rhiannon Everett Yr.10, Angharad Edwards Yr.10, Ella Jones, Eifion Davies, Elena Probert, Iwan Coyle, Elena Probert, Dafydd Woodland and Mabli Jones (all Yr.9).

Headteacher Catrin Taylor said: “We are immensely proud of all our pupils, those who competed and volunteered. Their efforts contributed to one of the most memorable Urdd Eisteddfods for some years.”
