A PRIMARY school have held an art exhibition at a cafe in Brecon based on the nature-themed book The Lost Words by Jackie Morris.

Mount Street Juniors are displaying the exhibition in the Hours Cafe, Bookshop & Deli for two weeks from Thursday, May 24 until tomorrow (Thursday, June 7), which allowed customers to observe their artwork and learn about nature in Britain.

Headteacher Shan Kenchington said: “All of the artwork you see is from this book and has been made by the children who are all very excited.

“They’ve all taken inspiration in different ways to produce different pieces of art work which is now being featured in a real life exhibition. It looks so good, it really is amazing.”

The exhibition has been viewed by the children’s friends and families as well as The Hours’ customers. It features fern rubbings, marble rolling, collages, poems, feathers, clay models and paintings. It also includes an interactive display which plays recorded information when a light is shone on part of a painting.

Nicola Bickerton, who works at the cafe, said: “I’m one half of The Hours cafe, bookshop and now deli. It looks fantastic, it really is great here and hopefully more people will come up here to have a look.”
