Ty Bronllys welcomed special guests Mayor of Talgarth Louise Reeves and County Councillor William Powell to its annual Christmas fayre.

The school, which is nestled in the hills of the Brecon Beacons, opened its doors to the local community with festive games, arts and crafts created by Ty Bronllys pupils and a charity raffle.

The Christmas fayre gave the children the perfect opportunity to show off their talents by helping to make items to sell to the local community.

Danielle Coakley, Interim Head of Education, said the children had been involved in the planning for the fayre, voting on what to make and then creating arts and crafts to sell.

She said: “The children loved getting involved from the early stages of voting on what to make to then creating some lovely arts and crafts to sell to the local community. Pupils made stamped wrapping paper and gift tags, Christmas cards, peppermint and chocolate orange bark, reindeer food and hot chocolate cones.

“It was wonderful to welcome our special guests to Ty Bronllys, who told me they were very impressed with the way the pupils interacted with the public in a safe space. Our aim is to help our pupils to integrate with the local community and to enjoy going out and about to local cafes and shops. It was wonderful to see them interacting with our guests, as well as our supportive local community.”

There was also a Santa’s grotto with a lucky dip of sensory toys, a toy swap stall, a foodbank station and charity raffle raising funds for the Trussell Trust.

Mayor Reeves also had her own stall selling crafted items from local foraged materials.

She said: “It was an absolute pleasure to attend Ty Bronllys’s Christmas Fayre last week in my capacity as Mayor of Talgarth Town Council. A warm welcome was received, and it was evident that Ty Bronllys provides a stimulating environment for the young people in their care. It is vital that Ty Bronllys is part of our community, and we encourage this collaboration.”
