An Easter treat is in store for music lovers when Brecon Singers perform a programme of musical delights at St Mary’s Church.

Brecon Singers present Shine in Peace on Saturday, March 23 at 7:30pm at St Mary's Church in Brecon.

Brecon Singers' musical director Robert Evans has created a lively mixed programme of music featuring Vaughan Williams' 'Five Mystical Songs' - a beautiful choral piece set to poems by George Herbert.

The baritone solos will be sung by Robert Pritchard, a freelance bass-baritone soloist and vocal coach who is also the Bass Lay Clerk with Hereford Cathedral choir. Robert Pritchard will also sing a moving solo from Mendelssohn's Elijah accompanied by Hilary Norris on the organ and Alan Davies on the cello.

Included in the programme will be well-known songs by Charles Stanford, James MacMillan and Eric Whitacre as well as two pieces commissioned for the choir courtesy of a generous bequest by the late William Sydney Phillips. 'Clywch Swn' written by Welsh composer Gareth Treseder describes the emotions inspired by the Bannau landscape. Jonathon Willcocks has based his commissioned work 'Shine in Peace' on a poem written by Brecon Singers choir member Jean Ruston. Jean has been successful in gaining publication of a variety of prose and poems over many years and she and the choir are delighted that Willcocks has used it to create a lovely choral piece.

Also included in the programme will be an organ solo by Hilary Norris and a solo by Brecon Singers' Choral Scholar Nansi Jones.

Audience members are sure to enjoy this uplifting concert and are advised to secure tickets in advance.

Tickets can be purchased from the usual outlets at Brecon Garden Centre, Brecon Books or the Ardent Gallery. Ticket availability on the door may be limited.
