The Bracken Trust Singers held a St David’s Day Concert at Festival Church, Llandrindod Wells earlier this week.
Held on St David's Day, March 1, the Singers performed several group numbers during the concert, alongside some of their members who sang solos.
Others taking part included guest soloists Mike Clarke, who also acted as MC. or the evening, and Phil Evans of Newtown. Ysgol Cefnllys school choir was a delightful addition to the concert.
The songs performed ranged from “Welcome to My World” to “Sosban fach”, the latter sung by everyone including the audience, and from "Myfanwy”, a solo by Mike Clarke, to “Bring me Sunshine”, another singalong.
Although music was the main aspect of the concert there were appropriate readings about Wales and Welsh culture regarding St David, dragons, daffodils, leeks, heroes, traditions, customs, the land of song, writers, actors and performers. Mike Clarke also read a section of the famous work “Under Milk Wood” by Dylan Thomas.
The school choir sang, “Cefnllys”, “Daffodil” and “Mis Mawrth unwaith eto”, the first two sung to familiar tunes. Their performance and behaviour, a credit to both their school and parents, were under the guidance and direction of Ann Mitson as conductor, and Lorraine Cadwallader-Jones, who also accompanied the children on the guitar.
The Bracken Trust Singers are led by Chris Clarke, who earlier in the evening had explained to the audience the work of the Bracken Trust Cancer Support Centre. The Singers are accompanied by Bev Nethercoat, with his inimitable style on the keyboard. Chris and Bev have been chiefly responsible, through practice sessions, for the Singers' current high standard of group singing, which was very evident at this concert.
Chris thanked each one who had contributed to the success of the evening, especially mentioning Erold and Klara Ferreira, the hosts at the Festival Church, and fifts were made to the main participants in the evening’s performance.
There was an excellently-sized appreciative audience to enjoy a wonderful evening’s entertainment.
All proceeds from the concert will go to the Bracken Trust Cancer Support Centre, based in Llandrindod Wells.
