David Wilson, Theatr Brycheiniog’s current director, has announced that he will step down at the start of the summer this year to take up a new post.
The move comes after four years of positive impact, which has seen the well-loved Theatr produce an improved programme, rebrand and deliver impressive front of house upgrades.
David is leaving to take up the role of Director at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, and says while he is sad to leave Brecon, as an ex-student of Aberystwyth it was an opportunity he couldn’t turn down.
Despite the many challenges of the pandemic, Theatr Brycheiniog is in a good place now having secured more support during this time. The Theatr has recently been modernised, with thanks to the European Regional Development Fund via the WCVA Social Business Growth Fund and the Arts Council of Wales Capital Programme. This led to the successful application by Powys County Council for £2.4m of UK Government levelling up funding that will see a further radical upgrading of the facility over the next few years, with distinct improvements to its infrastructure.
With so much positive change the Trustees and team are sad to see David go, but eager to secure the next leader for the organisation. Announcements will be made in the coming weeks as a recruitment plan gets underway. The Company is planning a smooth transition with David stepping down at the start of the summer providing time for a successor to be identified.
Chair, Sally Jones said: “We are sorry that David will be leaving Theatr Brycheiniog in the Summer, and thank him for four years of excellent service. We wish him well in his new post at Aberystwyth.
"There are lots of exciting things happening at Theatr Brycheiniog at the moment, and we look forward to the opportunities that recruiting a new director will bring and to the continuing development of the Theatr and its community and creative partnerships.”
David Wilson, the outgoing director said: “Leading Theatr Brycheiniog has been a privilege and a delight. The talented staff, volunteers and trustees are all an absolute joy to work with and I will dearly miss serving TB’s audiences and visitors.
"It is therefore with a heavy heart that I will stepping down and I truly wish the organisation the very best, and will stay in contact. There is still more to come for TB – a brilliant venue with brilliant people.”
