The Oriana Singers are one of the most active choirs in Kent and Sussex and regularly provide the choir at leading English cathedrals.

This year they have decided to embark on a mini tour of Welsh cathedrals and as part of this they are coming to Brecon.

They will lead the worship at Brecon Cathedral on Sunday, August 20 for both the 11am Eucharist and Choral Evensong at 3:30pm.

The music will include compositions by Harold Darke, Henry Loosemore, Richard Shephard, Ernest Bullock, John Sanders and Herbert Sumsion.

This will be the choir’s first visit to Brecon and they have said they are very much looking forward to it.

The choir will then travel on to Newport Cathedral for Evensong on Wednesday, August 23 before services at Llandaff Cathedral over the weekend of August 26 and 27.

The choir is based in the Tunbridge Wells area of Kent and was founded in 1966. The name ‘Oriana’ reflects the choir’s early specialisation in 16th century English music, in which Queen Elizabeth I is often referred to as ‘Oriana’.

The choir, which is conducted by Caroline Johnson, has sung in every medieval Anglican Cathedral in England and each year makes two or three weekend visits to cathedrals to deputise for the resident choir and in addition makes one-day visits to cathedrals and to churches in the south east.

More information about them can be found on their website.
