Brecon Mountain Rescue Team responded to a call-out on this bank holiday weekend as a woman experienced sustained chest injuries after falling in a ravine on Sunday.
The ravine was near Cwm Oergwm, where the casualty was checked over by BMRT casualty carers and stretchered out to safety. Following this, she was reassessed and was able to walk back to the RV with the help of the team members.
The woman was then met by the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust who looked after her.
Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team were called out to their 108th callout this year on Saturday evening.
They attended Upper Clun Gwyn Waterfall in the Brecon Beacons to help a female walker with a suspected broken ankle. The team were called out by Dyfed-Powys Police. The casualty had fallen and was unable to put any weight on her ankle.
A spokesperson for Central Beacons MRT said: “We are very grateful to the Brecon Beacons National Park Warden & BBNP #MeetAndGreet staff who were nearby and provided us with important information about the lady’s location, but they also stayed to get fully involved with helping the rescue - thank you all.”
The team’s Casualty Carer Medics and team Doctor provided pain relief and ankle immobilisation while other members of the team put in place the technical rope-work needed to get the lady onto a stretcher, so she could be taken from the bottom of the waterfall to the top.
The team got the casualty back to the car park as darkness fell. She was to hospital by her companions, and a spokesperson said wished her a full and speedy recovery.
The team headed back to base to sort, dry and repack equipment, before heading home for a well-deserved meal.
