A REDUNDANT X-ray room has been transformed into a Family Room at Knighton Community Hospital.

The Knighton Hospital and Community League of Friends has funded this transformation and provided the equipment necessary for a comfortable room for a patient receiving palliative care and a family member who may wish to stay with them.

This is the latest project by the League of Friends who since its inception in 1973 has donated over £500,000 to health-related projects both at the hospital and to associated health providers such as district nurses, first responders and the Macmillan Cancer Support group.

Graham Benbow, chairman of the League of Friends said it was a great pleasure to celebrate the opening of the room which had been 18 months in the making and which was completed alongside a new wet room for the hospital which although funded by Powys Health Board had been campaigned for by the League.

A plaque marking the League’s funding of the room was unveiled by Dr Martin Kiff, GP from Wylcym Street Surgery in Knighton, who was full of praise for the relaxed and scenic setting.

Knighton mayor Bob Andrews felt it was a wonderful asset to Knighton and the surrounding villages and thanked the League for their hard work.
