A family-run business in Brecon is celebrating a shop expansion, after a successful few years of trading.
Jo, director of Hillscott Projects, is hoping the expansion makes them a one-stop interior shop for Brecon. Focussing on natural and sustainable materials, the shop on The Struet offers high-end products without the cost.
"We see ourselves as ambassadors of Brecon. We try and be a business that Brecon can be proud of." Jo said. "We want people to know they can come to Brecon, and find curtains they can't find anywhere else, or flooring that isn't available on other high streets. If people want us to travel and fit in other areas outside of Brecon, we can do that, too, taking the Brecon name with us."
The business offers flooring, as well as soft furnishings. They offer a supply, design, and install package throughout homes in Brecon and the wider area of Powys. Their work has even seen them travel across the UK, representing Brecon in all that they do.
"All of our carpets are made in Britain. Our products are good quality. The wool is eco-friendly focussed." Jo said. "People can expect friendliness when they walk through the door and the whole service from beginning to end. People should come here for the family and local business aspect. There will be a person looking after you from beginning to end. We show up when we say we're going to show up. We do a clean-up service after the job is done, leaving the space perfect. We're with you from start to finish. You can come here now to decorate your whole house."
Known for stocking a wide selection of flooring, their expansion has helped them offer services for the rest of the home, as well as catering to commercial properties. They celebrated the opening of their expansion with the Mayor.
"You can have made-to-measure curtains. Blinds. Bedding. Soft furnishings. Rugs. We saw a gap and wanted to offer something unique for the people of Brecon."
The shop expansion is next door to their current shop, but they have plans to eventually knock through and link it together.
They also pride themselves on offering a design stage of the process, where someone can discuss the needs of those looking to give their home a refresh. With expert knowledge, the local business prides itself on ensuring its customer's needs are met.
One of their many USP selling points is the wide selection of paints. "We're really excited about stocking Little Greene paints. It's a paint with green credentials, favoured by The National Trust." Jo said. "They are paints for both interior and exterior."
The local aspect is important to Hillscott, with Jo living in Brecon and is the secretary for the Chamber of Trade. "We're confident in what we do. We know our products and we know our customers and their needs well. We are Brecon people, and we really want to see the town thrive. There are lots of concerns about high streets at the moment, and we're determined to change that with our small, independent business. We want to be fully immersed in the town so that it has a life and a community."
