On Saturday, July 6, members of Erwood YFC travelled to Staffordshire County Showground to represent Brecknock YFC and Wales at National Competitions Day.

Members of the small club were honoured to compete in two competitions - disco dancing and show choir. These were not the only competitions Erwood YFC members had qualified for across the weekend, having had success at the Wales YFC Sports Day in June with senior members winning the mixed volleyball competitions and the junior members coming second in the dynamo cricket.

Junior members competed in the disco dancing competition. This was an under 28 competition with all members from Erwood aged between 12 and 16. They were one of the youngest team in the competition Having sailed through the county and Wales round, they took to the floor in the members lounge at the showground. The juniors danced to a range of 70s and 80s classics. They performed excellently and made all senior members, parents and club leaders proud.

Following straight on was the show choir and Erwood YFC were up first. The competition required each team to sing two contrasting pieces. One needed to be taken from the UK top 40 in 2023. Erwood YFC took on a medley of What Was I Made For? by Billie Eilish, I’ll Be Waiting by Cian Ducrot and Pompeii by Bastille. The contrasting piece was Yma o Hyd by Dafydd Iwan. Erwood YFC showed the passion of the Welsh voice by showcasing a Welsh folk song in the national finals.

It turned out to be a very successful day for Erwood YFC as they were placed seventh in the disco dancing competition and were crowned winners of the show choir competition.
