Poultry keepers in Wales are encouraged to attend the annual NFU Cymru Poultry Conference to hear about efforts to tackle the spread of Avian Influenza and other issues affecting the sector.
The conference will take place on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the International Pavilion, Royal Welsh Showground (LD2 3SY). Food will be available from 1pm, with the conference starting promptly at 2pm. The event is kindly sponsored by Wynnstay.
After a welcome and introduction from NFU Cymru Poultry Board Chairman, Richard Williams, conference attendees will hear from Dr Richard Irvine, Chief Veterinary Officer for Wales, who will provide an update on the current Avian Influenza situation. Aimee Mahony, NFU’s Chief Poultry Adviser, will then discuss the current policy issues affecting the poultry sector.
Next, Gwesyn Davies will share his journey into the poultry industry as the new owner of Ellis Eggs. This will be followed by a look at broiler production with Thomas Wareham, Head of Broiler Production at Drummond Poultry.
Carwyn Worthington, Wynnstay Senior Trading Manager, will also give a presentation on poultry feed, before NFU Cymru President Aled Jones closes the event.
NFU Cymru Poultry Chairman Richard Williams, who will open the conference, said: “Given the varied challenges facing the sector, the NFU Cymru Poultry Conference comes at an opportune time to discuss these issues with our line-up of well-informed speakers who will be able to bring detail and informed analysis to our conversations.”
Attendees of this year’s NFU Cymru Poultry Conference must follow strict biosecurity guidelines, most notably including ensuring vehicles are clean and that clothing and footwear have not been near poultry sheds.
Anyone wishing to attend the conference is asked to call the NFU Cymru office on 01982 554200, register on the NFU Cymru website or email: [email protected].
