It’s been another busy and successful month for Pontfaen YFC.
Rhian Lewis travelled to compete in the National final of the Stockman of the Year 2024. Competitors were required to judge four rings of stock - four beef animals judged as butcher’s animals; four breeding ewes; four butchers pigs judged for slaughter and four dairy animals as productive animals. They also had to complete am animal health and husbandry questionnaire and identify cuts of meat.
Rhian only dropped two points, scoring 98 out of 100, to win the Vets Tasks.
The club enjoyed a fun day at Pantycored Farm by the kind permission of the Lewis family. Members, parents and friends enjoyed bubble football by West Wales Zorbs, Rounders was run by Jess and Rebecca and archery provided by Cambrian Archers. Members enjoyed pizzas provided by M & S Wood Fired Pizza and treats from Gino’s Ice Cream Van.
Members also enjoyed a have a go night at Merthyr Cynog Hall, with activities provided by Rhianwen and Anghard Jones. Members enjoyed team games to making a swan from origami.
Two teams also entered the senior quiz held at Abercamlais Arms, Sennybridge with question master Ella Harris, retired Radnor County Chair.
On a Friday night, two young teams headed to Sennybridge for the 18 and under have a go competition. Tasks for the teams included reading a tongue twister over and over for a minute, two members to move skittles from one bowl to another, a logo and general knowledge quiz and a team game with a balloon - set by judge Leanne Davies. The girl’s team were victorious.
On a recent Sunday, Nia travelled to Malvern to compete in the National Floral Art 21 and under.
The club is holding a Flower & Song Afternoon Tea on Sunday, October 13 at Methyr Cynog Hall from 3pm. The afternoon will include flower demonstrations by Sian Davies, Cwtta Inspirations, singing from Wynne Rees and musical items from members of the club.
