Nantmel Show, the last show of the season, which was held at the weekend, saw a wide variety and impressive turnout of 32 tractors and implements on show, writes E A Bates.

This ranged from grey Fergies to big Countys - all for visitors to enjoy on Saturday, September 28.

There was a number of unusual and first-time exhibitors, including John Phillips of Penybont with his top of the range Massey Ferguson 135, which he inherited from his sister. Andrew Thomas brought along his MF 178 four-wheel drive. Eithol Powell had another four-wheel drive tractor with his Ford 4000 four, while Cwmbach’s Mathew Packer had his David Brown Cropmaster, which had been converted to four-wheel drive.

Elsehwhere, Mathew Morgan brought along the ex-Arthur Price, Ashfield, David Brown 950, John Drew of Gwystre had a Ferguson combination of a 35 together with a Ferguson saw bench.

One of the late Les Price’s Nantyrmynach collection was also on display - the Massey Ferguson 65 of Paul Morgan, which had stayed in the parish.

Coming out on top in the competition classes was overall winner Rob Gore who had his restored 1937 Fordson winning the Owain Micah Memorial Shield for the best restored vintage tractor. First time exhibitor Rob brought along his grandfather’s ploughing tractor which he used prior to restoration.

Elsewhere, John Baker of Llidiartywaun won the best restored classic tractor with his Ford 2000, while Hundred House’s Mervyn Price triumphed, winning the best original classic tractor with his BMC mini.

In the best original tractor class, Gwystre’s Mark Thomas won with his Massey Ferguson.

Cregina’s Ben Davies won the best original implement with his rare Thompson Seeder and Nantmel’s Robert Pugh won the restored implement with his Ransome plough fitted with an automatic top link that disconnected the drive when the plough encounters a solid object.
