Sunday, July 7 saw the eighth running of the Nantmel Tractor Run organised by the Tractor Enthusiasts of Nantmel.

James Evans MS for Brecon and Radnorshire and County Councillor for Llanyre with Nantmel Claire Johnson-Wood were on hand to welcome everyone before starting the tractors off on their tour of Nantmel and surrounding communities.

This year the Run had chosen to support Rhayader Leg Club and Cancer Research UK in their fundraising efforts.

Leg Clubs aim to provide lower limb management in a social environment, where members (patients) are treated collectively and the emphasis is on social connection.

Tractor drivers came from as far away as Ceredigion, Shropshire, Herefordshire and Carmarthenshire - as well from the immediate local area.

After the civic send off in the summer sunshine the convoy headed westwards towards Nantglas and round to Gaufron before the threatening clouds emptied the expected downpour shower.

Moving on to overlook Rhayader, the convoy then headed northwards to pickk up Llwyncwtta Lane and the Beilli’s Lane, before emerging on the B4518 and descending into St Harmon.

After another nasty sharp shower, the procession took the Abbeycwmhir road, through the deer invaded woods and the tractors took the right of way to Bwlch-y-Sarnau.

Back on the tarred road, heading for Abbeycwmhir, the procession made its way back over the hill to Nantmel and down the Llwyn’s Lane to arrive at the start field for the lunch stop.

With the weather now dry and in glorious sunshine and a chance for a warming drink and refreshments, the raffle was drawn. Then it was time for the off again, this time in a circular route to the east of the start field around Nantmel, taking in the 360 degree views from Bwlch Mawr col, before turning down Carmel Lane to Gwystre before returning back to finish via the Bwlchbrondinam farm track.

The Tractor Enthusiasts of Nantmel wish to thank Mr Brian Pugh and the Lewis family for the use of their land, the participants and all helpers for making it a very enjoyable day.
