Competitors and their sheepdogs provided an excellent day of entertainment at the 85th annual sheepdog trials at Gladestry recently.

Both young and not so young from far and near took part in the event on Saturday, August 31.

The winner was Richard Jones of Llanyfelin, who received the Mrs Hanson Memorial Cup for the best dog in Gladestry, Trewern, Gwaithla and Colva parish.

Ed Powell of Caebanol Farm won the Dr Edwards Memorial Trophy for best local farmer’s dog.

Other winning competitors included Rupert Cures from Redditch, Steve Currie from Tredegar and John Phillips from Haverfordwest.

£1,000 from the event will be split equally between St Michael’s Hospice, Sands, The Bracken Trust and the Kidney Dialysis Unit at Llandrindod Wells Hospital.
