Last Sunday evening, crowds gathered at Brecon Livestock Market for some festive fun and cheer, courtesy of Brecknock YFC.

Over 200 members and friends came together to enjoy mince pies, turkey rolls and a carol service led by Reverend Canon Dr Mark Clavier of St Mary’s Church, Brecon.

Members from all 12 clubs were invited to take part with readings throughout the service, with every club also donating food hampers to the Powys Leaving Care Team.

A collection was taken during the service, which together with the food and drink sales, raised around £1,500, which will be donated to the Federation Chairman’s two chosen charities; Wales Air Ambulance and the DPJ Foundation.

The Federation would like to thank everyone for their kind generosity for two very worthy causes.

As part of the service, past members of Brecknock YFC took to the sale ring to perform a nativity sketch, written by Dyfed Watkins.

With the three kings racing in on ostriches and the donkey ending up being auctioned off in the sale ring, this was certainly no normal nativity, but in true Brecknock style, it brought fun, laughter and enjoyment for all.

Parti Pontsenni performed ‘O Seren Wen’ to conclude the sketch, before congregational carols and prayers brought the evening to a close.

The Federation would like to thank McCartneys for the use of the livestock market, Reverend Canon Dr Mark Clavier for leading the service, and members, sponsors and supporters for their contributions and participation in the event.

A big thank you has also been given to Brecknock YFC President, Mr Gethin Havard for his vision and hard work in coordinating what was an evening full of fun, laughter and community spirit.

A spokesperson for Brecknock YFC said: “Thank you to everyone who came and enjoyed the festivities.

“May we take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Nadolig Llawen i chi gyd.”
