POLICE have said a woman has been given a four-and-a-half-year custodial sentence after causing facial injuries with a glass to another woman.
Siyanda Allora Mngaza, of Caerphilly, was sentenced for causing grievous bodily harm with intent after an incident at a Brecon Beacons caravan park.
The 21-year-old had been found guilty of the offence at an earlier trial, where a jury heard how she had hit another woman on the forehead with a glass, which shattered on impact.
The incident took place at the Ancient Briton Hotel caravan park at Pen y Cae, near Ystradgynlais on May 25, last year. Police received a report of a disturbance, and arrived to find the victim sitting on a camping chair with a two to three inch laceration to her forehead and swelling to the side.
Officers were told the suspect had hit the victim with a cocktail glass, which broke on impact.
She was arrested within five minutes of police arriving at the scene and was charged with wounding with assault. She was sentenced to 54 months in prison.
Following her sentence at Swansea Crown Court on Friday, March 13 Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed she was given a four-and-a-half-year sentence for causing what it caused "significant facial injuries".
Inspector Gwyndaf Bowen said: “This was a lengthy and complex investigation, overseen by PC Ryan Overd who carried out all possible enquiries to get justice for the victim.
“Firstly, he worked swiftly in contacting a large number of victims to gain evidence and secure a charge. On securing the charge, PC Overd continued to gather evidence to secure a strong case which was put forward to a jury.
“The sentence handed down by the court goes to show what a nasty incident this was, and the significant impact it had on the victim.”
