Christ College Brecon is hosting its ambitious charity walking challenge for all outdoor enthusiasts on Sunday, May 19.
Launched in 2022, the Christ College Brecon Mountain Challenge aims to raise awareness and funds for Brecon Mountain Rescue and the Christ College Brecon Foundation and has since become a popular fixture in the Brecon community.
Open to all, this event provides a opportunity to explore the breathtaking landscape of the Brecon Beacons while staying active. With three distinct routes – a flat 10-mile route suitable for young families, a 13-mile route taking in Pen y Fan, and a challenging 26-mile route covering Pen y Fan, Corn Ddu and Fan y Big – there’s something for everyone, regardless of age or skill level.
Local parent Rachel said: “I completed the 13-mile route last year with my nine-year-old son; it was a brilliant day out and a great achievement to finish.”
Brecon Mountain Rescue will oversee checkpoints along each route, ensuring event safety communications are maintained, with additional support from Fabian4, a specialised mountain event company that will handle individual tracking and keep records of competitor timings.
Chris Kerr, Director of Outdoor Education at Christ College Brecon, said: “We are very excited to be hosting this fantastic event once again. After two incredibly successful years, this event has become a staple in the Brecon community, and it’s wonderful to be raising money for such important causes once again.
“The work of Brecon Mountain Rescue is paramount in keeping us all safe in the mountains, and the CCB Foundation enables us to help all pupils develop their potential, irrespective of their background.
“The event is open to all and provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the breath-taking landscape of the Brecon Beacons while staying active. With three distinct routes that range in difficulty, there really is something for everyone.”
Dr Rob Powell, Team Leader at Brecon Mountain Rescue, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in the Mountain Challenge again this year. It’s a joy to see so many people get involved and safely enjoy our fantastic National Park.”
