Children at Clyro Church in Wales Primary recently welcomed Welsh graffiti artist, Andy Birch, to help design and create a mural for the school.
Following a successful grant application to the Arts Council for Wales, year 5 and 6 pupils learnt first-hand from an established, professional graffiti artist - about the history of the graffiti artform, the rights, responsibilities and legalities linked with the art form as well as the health and safety protocols involved before coming together and creating a stunning mural using spray paint and graffiti techniques.
The school’s values take pride of place in the painting, alongside a multi-lingual message of welcome and images depicting the school’s rural setting and surroundings, as well as Welsh identity. The pupils all gave ideas to be incorporated into the mural and worked on it with Mr. Birch.
A spokesperson for Clyro Church in Wales Primary school said: “All members of staff became involved too! The pupils created not only a beautiful, striking piece of art but have also left an imprint of themselves through the artwork to be enjoyed for many years to come.”
