Gwernyfed High School is pleased to announce the continued success of its pupils in this year’s A-level examinations.

The pupils have achieved positive results, reflecting not only their academic achievements but also their resilience and dedication.

This accomplishment follows the school’s recent removal from special measures by Estyn at the end of the summer term, marking another significant milestone for the community.

81 per cent of all grades awarded at Gwernfyed were A*-C, 66 per cent of pupils who began their studies in 2022 gained three A*-C qualifications, and 22 per cent of all grades were A*/A.

Gwernfyed is delighted that pupils have secured places at their preferred universities, including some of the most respected institutions across the UK to study courses which include Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Social Work, Game Art, Astrophysics and Social Work, to name but a few.

Superb performances were recorded across many subjects, particularly in English, Mathematics, Art and Design, and Media. The school’s partnership with Chweched Powys Sixth also saw excellent results in Health and Social Care and Drama. They are excited to be enhancing the breadth of courses on offer next year.

Headteacher, Kirsty Retallick said: "We are incredibly proud of our pupils' achievements this year. Despite the challenges they have faced, they have shown remarkable determination and risen to the occasion. These results are a testament to their hard work and the unwavering support from our dedicated staff and the entire school community.

"These results are not just about grades; they reflect the growth, resilience, and commitment of each pupil. We are confident they are well prepared for the next stage of their lives;  whether that be further education, or entering the workforce, this is the next step on their road to fantastic futures."

The school also thanked parents, families and teachers for their hard work and support.
