It was a case of happy faces for Brecon Happy Feet Runners when they recently ‘graduated’ from their 10-week couch to 5k fitness course at the Groe parkrun in Builth Wells.
The runners and their volunteer coaches had been working towards completing a 5km run during twice weekly evening sessions at the Brecon running track.
One of those taking part, Cheryl, said: “It was the best decision I ever made to do this.”
Sian Williams, one of the Couch to 5k organisers and volunteer coaches said: “The runners were absolutely amazing. We had a variety of abilities including those who had never run before and for them to complete this course and run the 5k at the end of it is an outstanding achievement.
“Some of the runners were so inspired that they went back the following week to do the Groe parkrun again! And we have also set up an intermediate running group for those who wanted to carry on with their running.”
Brecon Happy Feet Runners, which is affiliated to Brecon Athletics Club, is starting a new couch to 5k group in the new year for beginners or those returning to running on Tuesday, January 10.
Everyone will be supported to go at their own pace and sessions include a warm up, some chat and a cool down.
There is no charge for the course but booking is essential as space is limited.
