The Brecon Macular Society support group will now continue to meet at a different time and location each month.
The group’s get-togethers will be every second Monday of the month, 10.30am-12.30pm, with the next to take place on March 13.
The group will meet at Brecon Town Council Offices, rear entrance of the Brecon Guildhall (LD3 7AL).
People living with macular disease or other sight loss conditions are invited to the group, which brings people together who may otherwise feel isolated because of their visual impairment. Macular disease affects people of all ages, and people often describe losing their sight similar to that of bereavement.
Macular Society Senior Regional Manager for South Wales, Adele Francis, said: “It is wonderful to be able to invite local people to the Brecon Macular Society Support Group, which has seen a change of time and venue for easier access to all.
“The group is a welcoming and compassionate place to learn about the support available, build your confidence, and better understand your own macular disease. And, of course, it’s a chance to make new friends who really understand what it is like living with sight loss.”
Each month the group invites guest speakers on a variety of subjects, including macular conditions and the impact on daily lives. Vision Rehabilitation Specialist Vennetta Smith, from Powys Social Services Sensory loss team, will speak at the March meeting about the importance of her role to the local sight loss community. The meetings are also social occasions where people can chat over a cup of tea.
