A care home worker in Talgarth has received a regional award after saving the life of a resident who suffered a heart attack.
Carl Barnes, who has worked at Ashburnham House for eight years, used skills learnt at a recent basic life support training course to resuscitate the resident.
Carl’s quick thinking, which led him to obtain a defibrillator from outside Talgarth Town Hall, ensured that the resident remained stable until the emergency services arrived at the scene.
Service manager of the Shaw healthcare-owned home, Pat Sharman, said: “Carl’s heroic actions saved a man’s life and we are proud beyond words.
“After spending a few weeks in hospital recovering, our resident is well and back with us at Ashburnham House. If it wasn’t for Carl, it could have been a very different outcome which doesn’t bear thinking about.”
To recognise and thank him for his heroic actions, Carl was awarded with a regional Star Award from Shaw healthcare. The award was presented to him, along with a bottle of bucks fizz, by his manager Pat.
Ashburnham House is a supported living service operated by Shaw healthcare. Shaw is the largest employee-owned care provider in the UK.
