The Senedd Dog of the Year competition is now open - and James Evans MS’ Cocker Spaniel Bonnie is among five dogs all vying for the title.

Following the successful events held in Westminster and Holyrood, the inaugural Senedd Dog of the Year competition is being held in Britannia Park in Cardiff on May 23.

Organised by The Kennel Club and Dog’s Trust, the contest provides the chance for the organisations to engage with Senedd members and raise awareness of key issues which affect canine welfare.

James Evans MS said: “Bonnie not only brings a smile to my face, but to everyone she meets. She’s an incredible example of just how much dogs can positively impact on our mental health and overall happiness, and I would really appreciate if everyone would consider casting their vote for her.

“It’s great that a competition such as this can bring everyone together and give us all the chance to discuss the issues affecting animal welfare. There’s always room for improvement when it comes to dog welfare.

“Owning a dog is a commitment that lasts a lifetime, and ensuring they are happy, healthy and safe are just a few of many things that responsible owners should take seriously.”
